Researching your business competitors is a great way to find useful information on what kind of ads might be working in your industry. Large companies will usually pump quite a substantial amount of money into their advertising so why not play this to your advantage?
Facebook has a great tool called Facebook Ad Library where you can view all the currently active ads from advertisers across Facebooks network.
As long as your competitors have a Facebook page and are running adverts, you’ll be able to see all their ads, ad copy and what type of ads they’re running.
This is a really simply way of gauging what’s working at the moment. If you notice your competitors are mainly using Video as their ad format then it’s likely they’ve found success with this.
You can also see the type of language they use, it’s common practice to be “emotional” rather than plain. A poor example of ad copy would be something like:
“On offer right now, this bracelet is £5 off retail price. Grab it quick”.
Not only is it bland and boring, it provokes nothing from a potential customer. Compare that to something like:
“We’ve upped our bracelet game this week, with sun just around the corner it’s the perfect time to sparkle with a cocktail in hand! Our diamond bracelet range is just £25! ✨”
With Facebooks Ad Library you can decide what’s kind of adverts are best for you and your business. However, word to the wise, companies will often have multiple ads running at the same time – this is to test what kind of ads are working best for them. This doesn’t mean they will all work for you.
